Creativity Comes to Life: Cartooning & Comics at the Gmeiner Art Center
Over the past five weeks, I had the pleasure of leading a Cartooning & Comics Workshop for artists of all ages at the Gmeiner Art Center in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. It was exciting to watch participants grow in confidence as they explored the art of visual storytelling. Together we learned how to: - Create original characters and stories. - Develop a character model sheet to keep proportions and features consistent from drawing to drawing. - Design a simple "doodle" version of each character, making it easier to quickly sketch them from different angles, poses, and expressions while maintaining a consistent look. - Use traditional nib pens and India ink for clean, expressive line work. - Practice hand lettering to make comic dialogue clear, readable, and visually appealing. - Discover new ideas through collaborative brainstorming, creative prompts, and drawing exercises.
